The Role of Technology

Vastland became a client of CIO Office when they were preparing to move from their old office to the newly remodeled office suite they now occupy. Their previous network consisted of little connectivity among the various aging PC s, differing in both model and manufacturer. They had a minimal DSL service with hosted email that consistently exceed subscribed usage limits, and the shared printers were failing on an almost daily basis.

The CIO Office assisted Vastland in ordering all new Dell Workstations and Server for their new facility, and coordinated the cabling installation. CIO Office configured the new server with Microsoft’s Small Business Server 2003, providing complete Exchange email services, full system backups, tremendously enhanced data security, and complete remote access. CIO Office also installed a state-of-the-art Nortel BCM-50 Voice over IP telephone system, providing features that Vastland is today expanding to tie together all of their locations. Currently, prospective Vastland customers call each property development separately and should they need the services of another division, the caller must hang up and call that office on another number. With the new system, a caller can be transferred between properties and should they need to leave a message, it will be in the corporate voice mail system. This consolidation will save Vastland several hundred dollars per month at each property. This year Vastland became a TechAdvantage client with full remote monitoring and Help Desk services, providing quicker response times and the ability to eliminate potential problems before they cause loss of service.
